Stella Duffy

Writer, theatre-maker, co-director of Fun Palaces

Stella Duffy is an award-winning writer with over fifty short stories, ten plays, and thirteen novels published in fifteen languages. The Room of Lost Things and State of Happiness were both longlisted for the Orange Prize, and she has twice won Stonewall Writer of the Year. She adapted her novel State of Happiness for feature film with Zentropa/Fiesta, and HBO have optioned her Theodora novels for TV. She has twice won the CWA Short Story Dagger in 2002 and 2013. Her collected short stories, Everything is Moving, Everything is Joined and her Doctor Who novella Doctor Who – Anti-Hero were published in 2014. Her new novel London Lies Beneath will be published by Virago in late October 2016. She has worked in theatre for over 30 years as an actor, director, playwright, facilitator and workshop leader.

She is the Co-Director of Fun Palaces. Fun Palaces is a campaign for community cohesion and individual empowerment through the community-led creation of arts and sciences events every October. Fun Palaces are free, local, innovative, transformative and engaging – anyone and everyone is encouraged to get involved and create their own neighbourhood Fun Palace, we welcome all interest, and we believe in the genius in everyone – everyone an artist, everyone a scientist.
