The next Mayor is faced with an air pollution crisis to solve and the knowledge that expanding our road network will just make that crisis worse. What we need is the same kind of determination as when London adopted the congestion charge. The only way London will work is if we reduce traffic at the same time as increasing our population. The next Mayor has to instil a sense of optimism into Transport for London. They have done it before, they can do it some more.
It is simply outrageous that management, in a mad dash to bulldoze through the night running stunt, has seen fit to smash apart long-term agreements and resorted to bullying staff into accepting roster changes at a local level and the message from RMT and our sister unions is clear - we are not having it.
When I watched British Transport Police's recent Report It to Stop It video, posted on Transport for London's YouTube channel on 13 April, I felt a chilling familiarity with the ordeal portrayed. I identified strongly with the victim's sense of powerlessness as she is being assaulted, unable to speak out or use any force to deter her harasser.
