Teacher William Drury has been sentenced to three years in prison after he "groomed" two teenagers and encouraged them to have sex in the back of his car.
The married father-of-two told the 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl they looked "beautiful" as he drove them home from his house in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Jurors heard how Drury stopped in a lay-by so the teenagers could continue having sex and told the girl he "loved her".
The 48-year-old was found guilty of 12 counts of sexual offences by Leeds Crown Court and ordered to sign the sex offenders register. The court was told how Drury took photographs of the girl topless and was "infatuated" with her.
The drama teacher was arrested after pupils saw the pictures on his computer. After being investigated, police also found images of female students, including a 15-year-old girl in her underwear.
During the trial, Drury told the court he looked upon the boy as a "friend", even discussing sexual matters together. Prosecutors said the sex offender had "groomed" the teenagers who had sex in his car.
Judge James Spencer QC told Drury he had used teaching for his "own purposes so you could exploit the children in your care".
"You eroded those boundaries, you took advantage of their respect for you and what you did was you assaulted the girl, you were familiar with other girls and you encouraged them to behave in a way they weren't ready for.
"It's that breach of trust that makes your case so serious", the judge added.
The former teacher was found guilty of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity by a person in a position of trust; two counts of engaging in sexual activity by a person in a position of trust; two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity by a person in a position of trust and six counts of making indecent photos of a child.
He has also been disqualified from working with children.
