'Sleep Texting' On The Rise For Stressed Brits

Do You Text In Your Sleep?

Increasing numbers of stressed-out Brits are subconsciously 'sleep texting' while they are dreaming, a recent study has discovered.

Sleep experts from the Melbourne Sleep Disorder Centre claim that people with the rare condition send incoherent text messages while they are asleep, completely unaware that they're doing it - and it's all down to our busy and hectic lifestyles.

"We had patients who have reported sending text messages to their friends and family while asleep," says Dr. David Cunnington from the study.

"Because it's so easy to receive emails constantly, and get notifications from smartphones, it becomes more difficult for us to separate our waking and sleep lives."

If you're guilty of sleeping with your phone beside your bed and feel obliged to reply to an email or tempted to check in on your Facebook page before the lights go out, it may be time to switch it off before you shut off.

"The key point is that people need to respect their sleep and make an effort to switch off at night," adds Dr. Cunnington.
