Wolverhampton Stabbing: Woman Found Dead With Man In 'Critical Condition'

A woman has died and a man is critical in hospital after being found with stab wounds at a house.

Police were called to reports of disorder at the house in Newhampton Road West, Wolverhampton, just before 8am today.

A man in his 30s and a woman, aged 36, were found collapsed inside the address, having sustained stab injuries, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, despite attempts by emergency services to save her.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A police cordon is in place at the scene as officers investigate the circumstances of the woman's death and how the man came to sustain his injuries, the spokesman said.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 0345 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

One local businessman, who did not want to be named, said the flat was about 200 yards from his shop but he did not know the exact number of the property.

He said he had heard that the man and woman were a couple and had a baby.

"I'm not sure what happened. I just saw police, police cars and ambulances early this morning.

"People who have come in today said they thought they were a couple and had a baby. It's terrible."

The scene has been taped off while officers examine the scene.

Another neighbour, who also did not want to be named, said: "It's so scary. I'm just up the street and you just don't expect this sort of thing to happen.

"When I went past it was all taped off and you could see officers coming in and out of the flat."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed two ambulances, a medic and paramedics attended the scene this morning at 7.50am.

She said crews arrived to find a man and a woman who had suffered multiple stab injuries.

The woman was in cardiac arrest and, despite the best efforts of the crews, died at the scene, she added.

The man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.
