Kelvin MacKenzie 'Spews Untruths Like Vomit' Says Anne Diamond

Broadcaster Anne Diamond has hit back at former Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie's criticisms of her appearance before the Leveson inquiry into press ethics.

During an appearance on the Sky News paper review on Tuesday evening, Diamond said MacKenzie "spews out untruths like projectile vomit".

"Every single supposed fact he threw out concerning me was completely and utterly untrue," she said.

Appearing before the Leveson inquiry on November 28, Diamond said she felt she had been "emotionally blackmailed" into supporting a cot death charity run by The Sun after the paper published a photograph of her son's funeral.

She also claimed that Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the Sun, had told his editors to "go after" her after she confronted him about how his publications treated people featured in their stories.

However appearing before the inquiry himself on Monday, MacKenzie, who edited The Sun from 1981 to 1994, refuted the claim. He said Diamond was never forced into doing anything and denied Murdoch ever ordered him to target her. He said she was a "devalued witness".

In a perfect piece of timetabling by Sky News, Mackenzie was booked into to appear on the 10.30pm paper review on Tuesday night an hour after Diamond had been on screen.

Responding to her comments, he joked that "you don't get many endorsements like that". Now a Daily Mail columnist, MacKenzie stuck the boot into Diamond by joking that it was "nice to hear she is in work, anyway", referring to her appearance on TV earlier in the evening.
