Facebook has just bought photo-sharing app Instagram for $1 billion, and many users of the iOS and now Android app are worried that their reliable service could be destroyed by the "sell out".
Many have deleted their accounts, let their anger out on Twitter and others fear an in-flux of Facebook's great unwashed will kill the indie vibe of the Instagram community.
Yet more smartphone photo snappers managed to resist the Instagram hype entirely, sticking to alternative photo apps that shoot, filter and share just as well as Instagram, if not better.
Instagram has been popular precisely because it is a quiet little neck of the internet, a "walled garden" app, where the sole purpose is to shoot and share photos. There's no sharing of your intimate music-listening habits, no forcing advertisements down your throat and no reminding you of "friends waiting".
The concern amongst Instagram fans is that this simple, single-minded purpose could be lost in the huge hive of add-ons and apps that is Facebook.
