Labour Extends Poll Lead Over Conservatives

Labour Lead Over Tories Rises In New Poll

Labour has extended its lead over the Conservatives to nine points, according to a new poll.

After a torrid month for the coalition government, support for Labour has risen by 4% to 42%, while that for the Tories has fallen one point to 33%.

The Liberal Democrats were unchanged on 11%, the Populus poll for The Times found.

The Tory-Lib Dem coalition has faced heavy criticism in recent weeks over the Budget and its handling of the threat of strikes by fuel tanker drivers.

Populus also found that 61% of voters felt the coalition was doing "badly", up from 51% in September. Some 24% said the coalition was doing "very badly", up from 15%.

Populus interviewed 1,003 people by telephone between 13 and 15 April.
