A man and a woman whose bodies were found at a semi-detached house in Nottingham died from gunshot wounds, police have confirmed.
Nottinghamshire Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths of the 64-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, who were discovered in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham on Thursday during inquiries to identify a woman found dead in the River Trent.
A police spokesman said a murder investigation was under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths at the house in North Road.
The spokesman said: "The bodies were found as police carried out inquiries into the identity of a woman who was found dead in the River Trent on April 15.
"A Home Office post-mortem concluded she drowned."
Formal identification of all three people is yet to take place and detectives are trying to establish if there is a link between the two incidents.
Officers found the bodies at the address on North Road shortly after 11am and extensive forensic inquiries have been conducted at the scene.
House-to-house inquiries have also been carried out and cordons were put in place at two other properties in the area as part of the investigation.
Speaking yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Kate Meynell, Senior Investigating Officer, said: "A team of detectives are working on this inquiry in order to piece together the chain of events leading up to the deaths.
"At this stage I would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
