Police Arrest Two Over Stabbing Yards From Olympic Park

Detectives investigating the death of a man who was stabbed to death in a busy shopping centre have arrested two men on suspicion of murder and violent disorder.

The pair, aged 20 and 19, were arrested by police yesterday afternoon and evening and are being held in custody at separate east London police stations.

Liam Woodwards, 24, was knifed after a fight broke out among a large group of men at Westfield in Stratford, east London, on Friday, just yards from the Olympic Park.

Nine men have already been charged with violent disorder.

Michael Alvaranga, 23, of Leytonstone and Javin Righbie, 22, of Stratford, were remanded in custody after appearing at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Monday.

Michael Ndefo, 21, of Plaistow, Jason Vaughan, 24, of Stratford, Jerome McLeish, 20, of Victoria Docks, Danny Caton, 23, of Stratford and Rhys Regisford, 20, of Plaistow, appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on Monday and were remanded in custody to appear at the same court on July 9.

Tony Caton, 21, of Stratford and Emmanuel Oloyede, 19, of Plaistow were bailed to appear at the same court on July 30.

A 20-year-old man also arrested in connection with the investigation has been bailed until later this month pending further inquiries.
