Koalas are tree-dwellers – hence their large front claws, which they use for gripping the bark.
However, one specimen in Australia has discovered that its claws also make handy paddles – because it was filmed bravely swimming across a creek to a large rowing boat, where it was lifted in and given a free lift.
The footage, which has been uploaded to YouTube, begins with the creature poised in shallow water, ready for a dip.

It then swims towards the boat the camera operator is in and is plucked to safety.
Looking slightly bedraggled, the bear-like animal takes up position in-between the rowers – ready for transportation.
The watching oarsmen and women are understandably surprised at what they’ve witnessed, as koalas rarely take to the water.
They spend most of their time in Eucalyptus trees, the leaves of which form their entire diet.
They also receive 90% of their hydration from eucalyptus leaves, according to thekoala.com.
