It's a far cry from six foot tall blade-wielding men but pom poms were a go-go at the weekend, when Cambridge cheerleaders took on their historic Oxford rivals, dubbing the competition "the new boat race".
Future Cheer Saturday Night Fever competition, held at Loughborough University on Saturday, saw university teams from across the UK don short skirts and hair ribbons to compete for the cheer crown.
Victory was sweet for the Cambridge Cougars, who stormed ahead with a score of 74%, while Oxford's The Sirens managed a meagre 60%.
It was the first time in history the Oxbridge universities have competed in a cheerleading match, and the cheerleaders hope to make the event an annual occasion.
