Angela Merkel Pictured In Swimming Costume In Naples, Italy, Amid Cyprus Crisis (CAPTION COMP)

CAPTION COMPETITION: What's Merkel Up To?

With a eurozone in crisis, Cyprus on the brink and austerity protests across the continent, Angela Merkel can be forgiven for wanting to get away from it all.

The German chancellor has been taking time out at a resort near Naples, Italy, presumably to get some perspective on an economic crisis in which she has become somewhat of a hate figure.

As the European economic powerhouse, Germany has been blamed by many for imposing strict financial reforms on struggling countries such as Cyprus and Italy.

Merkel was on holiday with her husband, Joachim Sauer

According to the Daily Telegraph, Stefano Caldoro, president of the local Campania region, released a video urging Merkel to consider the plight of ordinary Italians.

In the clip, entitled "Welcome to our ever hospitable land Mrs Merkel. But now look around you", he said: "Here there are 10 young unemployed for every young one without work in Germany.

"But Chancellor Merkel should reflect: here is a stronger country that today enjoys the benefits of the crisis from others.

"And this is a Europe that cannot continue."
