Woman Falls Off Pier While Checking Facebook On Her Phone In Australia

A woman in Australia walked off a pier because she was looking at Facebook on her phone.

The Taiwanese tourist had to be rescued after plunging into the sea off Melbourne.

Senior constable Dean Kelly said she had been found floating in Port Phillip Bay, metres away from St Kilda's pier, later on Monday night.

She was reportedly floating on her back because she couldn't swim.

Kelly said: "She still had her mobile phone in her hand and initially she apologised... she said 'I was checking my Facebook page on the phone and I've fallen in'."

The woman was reportedly in her mid-20s.

She was taken to hospital for a check-up and later released.
