Stan Collymore has laid into Sky News anchor Kay Burley after her appearance on Thursday’s debate ahead of the General Election.
Burley moderated the first of the television set pieces as David Cameron and Ed Miliband faced questions from Jeremy Paxman and a studio audience.
But Collymore was clearly unimpressed, describing Burley as a “Murdochite” and claiming she: “Virtually gave Dave a hug and a kiss. Embarrassing.”
His ire continued, as he implored: “Please get Kay Burley off these debates. If she can’t give both equal treatment, she shouldn’t be allowed to host. More Paxman.”
The famously-fierce Burley shot straight back, asking Collymore to address her directly: “if you need to slag me off... Surely you remember from when your [sic] were direct messaging me”, followed by a winking emoticon.
.@StanCollymore Stan, its @KayBurley if you need to slag me off directly. Surely you remember from when your were direct messaging me 😉

Collymore replied: “The coffee or lunch we agreed to Kay?”, adding: “Absolutely, there already was plenty to talk about. I do think you were incredibly easy on Dave but stopped Ed many times.”

With the battle lines drawn, a hoard of tweeters hungry for blood swore their allegiances and began chanting from the sidelines.
At this point, Collymore deleted his tweets, explaining he was "cleaning my feed".
