Anthony Devlin/PA Wire
File photo dated 08/05/15 of Prime Minister David Cameron arriving at 10 Downing Street, London, with his wife Samantha, following an audience with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, to confirm his second term as Prime Minister following his party's General Election victory.

It was the year of a surprises, from the Conservative's General Election result to Jeremy Corbyn's Labour leadership win.

Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg quit as party leaders, as did Nigel Farage - although he didn't much like it and unresigned almost immediately.

David Cameron found himself cut loose from his Lib Dem coalition partners, but instead is now beholden to his eurosceptic backbenchers.
