Since 2011, Harry Potter fans have been desperately trying to work out "one tiny, little, left of field piece of information" J.K. Rowling gave Alan Rickman to help him better understand how to play Severus Snape.
The sadly-deceased actor who passed away from cancer last week guarded the clue until the final book came out and basically had to lie about the true nature of his character until then.
Rickman said: "Nobody knew where it was really going except her.
"It was important for her that I know something, but she only gave me a tiny piece of information which helped me think it was a more ambiguous route."
On Monday a fan asked Rowling yet again what the information was - and finally she responded.
@jk_rowling Will you tell us the piece of information that you told Alan Rickman about Severus Snape? Or will that forever be a secret? :-)— Sarah (@sarahrosefrank) January 18, 2016
I told Alan what lies behind the word 'always'. https://t.co/NHTJ5J6kxb— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 18, 2016
@AshleyKSmalls I know exactly how you feel.— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 18, 2016
This of course refers to a scene featuring Snape and Professor Dumbledore in which the is his long-held love for Harry's mother is laid bare.
"Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
"After all this time?"
"Always," said Snape.”
