A Perfect 14: The First Trailer For The Documentary About Plus-Size Modelling And Weight Discrimination
|

The first trailer for A Perfect 14 - a documentary on the plus-size modelling industry, the women working in it and weight discrimation - has been released, and if these three minutes of footage are anything to go by, it's going to be a must-see.

As well as going behind the scenes of photoshoots and exploring how women's careers started, the film critiques the term plus-size and discusses why it's a negative way to describe women's bodies.

"It's not an inclusive term," says one model. "I mean, plus what?"

In addition, the film explores weightism and how it affects women who are not the perfect size 10. Daniella Sieukaran - a body image researcher at Simon Fraser University in Canada - states at one point: "Weightism is pretty much the last acceptable version of discrimination."

A fantastic point made is that whenever a magazine or designer uses a plus-size model in a fashion spread it's big news, when actually we should be used to seeing imagery of women who are all shapes and sizes.
