This 'Peachy Head' Shampoo For 'Suicidal Hair' Is Making People Angry

A beauty brand has come under fire from social media users for being insensitive towards suicide.

UK company Anatomicals sell a shampoo called 'Peachy Head' - a play on Beachy Head - described as 'peach shampoo for suicidal hair'.

The product's description reads: "Bring your locks back from a state of complete depression."

It also bares the line: "I never knew my once beautiful hair would actually commit suicide by tossing itself off dramatic white cliffs to the rocks below."

One Twitter user has claimed the product is for sale at Urban Outfitters, and that the company are "hugely irresponsible" for aiming it at teenage girls.

Others have also tweeted in response about the "upsetting" name.

Speaking to The Huffington Post UK, Anatomicals co-founder Paul Marshall said that the brand weren't "making light" of suicide.

"We are naturally concerned if any of our bath and body items cause offence as this is never our intention," he said.

"However, we are an irreverent, fun brand with a sense of humour - something the world is often lacking in. This product is so obviously a tongue in cheek reference to hair and refers only to hair.

"Every day of every year, millions of people have a 'bad hair’ day. They may feel like putting on a hat or even in extreme cases, chopping it off and going for a sleek bob. Never do they feel like killing themselves, although they may feel like killing their hairdresser.

"As always, we closely monitor all feedback, good or bad, and respond accordingly. ‘Peachy Head' has been on sale for a number of years now and continues to be loved by many customers.

"That's not to say we fail to recognise that suicide, and particularly teenage suicide, is a growing problem and we would never wish to be seen as making light of it."

A spokesperson for Urban Outfitters told The Huffington Post UK that the product had already been removed from their website and - in light of the tweet - will be pulled from all stores.

"Although the product’s name is a humorous attempt to market a shampoo for hard-to-manage hair, we reevaluated and felt it was not appropriate and it was pulled from the Urban Outfitters website," they said.

"Regrettably, some of the product was not pulled from our retail stores. We have instructed all of our UK  stores to remove the product immediately.”
