Forget real-life barbies - artist and blogger Jirka Vaatainen has created a series of portraits showcasing 'real-life' version of Disney princesses.

Jirka used Photoshop and digital painting to start the project on his WordPress site 'Jirka's blog,' by reimagining Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

"I decided to entertain myself by Photoshopping together a "real life" version of my favourite Disney villain, Ursula."

The picture was so popular, Jirka decided to continue reinventing Disney princesses. He has since 'recreated' Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Pocohontas, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan and Cinderella to name a few.

The project began while Jirka was studying graphic design at the Arts University College at Bournemouth. As well as his 'Disney Girls' project, Jirka also has a swanky website dedicated to his design and creative work.

This includes a digital 'ready to wear colour finder', which allows users to "find designer garments in your choice of colour, by your choice of designer, and even in your choice of collection."

Jirka has also created cover illustrations for magazines, including a brutal interpretation of Natalie Portman as Black Swan for Little White Lies magazine.

This is not the first time the cartoon princesses have been reinvented: the website B for Bel has a post dedicated to 'If Disney Princesses had Instagram.'

Most recently, the cartoons have been used to raise awareness of domestic violence. Find out more in the video below:
