CES 2014: What To Expect
|

CES is here again.

That's right, CES 2014 -- the annual Las Vegas riot of electronics, computers, phones and digital whatnot -- has arrived once more, to convince you that what you really, really need in life is a ridiculously massive wall of TV sets, and possibly a laptop that can fold in ever more exciting ways, for absolutely no reason at all.

Here's what to expect from this year's show:

Best Future Gadgets Of 2014
Oculus Rift(01 of06)

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is already brilliant - this is the year that we want one we can actually buy, play games on and lose entire weekends to exploring in socially damaging and mind-altering ways. (credit:Flickr:kalleboo)
Affordable 4K(02 of06)

So 4K TV is amazing. But so far it's too expensive and there's nothing to watch on it. So come on, TV makers of the world: give us a 4K set for an affordable price, and then a version of Gravity we can watch at that resolution at home. Please. (credit:AP)
Samsung Galaxy Note 4(03 of06)

Everyone is looking to the Galaxy S5 for Samsung's next big device. But we're hoping for something literally bigger, and even better, from the new Note. Last year's massive pen-enabled device was our favourite large phone of the year, and the prospect of a thinner, edge-to-edge and potentially curved replacement is just delicious.
HTC Two(04 of06)

We can't wait for the HTC 'Two', or 'M8', or whatever it will be called -- the name doesn't matter, we just an update to arguably the most beautiful Android phone of 2013 with a better camera, redesigned OS skin and possibly some of the cool rounded 'teardrop' corners seen in this concept.
Google Glass(05 of06)

Google - if you do nothing else in 2014, take your wearable Glass computer, make it slightly less creepy, make it cost about £300 rather than £900 and make it cool. Oh, and release it in the UK. (credit:Getty Images)
[Sigh] iWatch(06 of06)

Because we're virtually obligated to include this every year until Apple finally releases one. Still, jaded hopes and fears aside, this Nike Fuelband-style iWatch would go down nicely, if it worked, which it almost certainly would not.
