You can keep Milan, London is the world's design hub, at least for one week in May.

Clerkenwell Design Week will take over that pocket of the city renowned for Turnmills, Victorian jails and the old River Fleet for two days from 22 to 24 May.

Daren Newton, co-founder of Clerkenwell Design Week told The Huffington Post: "Implementing innovation in the design world is an integral part of its future. Design is such a unique area we thought if it’s not done properly soon, there might not be a chance to try again. This is why Clerkenwell Design Week is such a wonderful focus to introduce the latest in cutting edge design."

The rather abbreviated week builds on the success of previous years, with a programme of product launches, parties, auctions, debates and exhibitions, installations, open studios, workshops and more.

This year's event features a solar tree design beacon in St John's square, Made in Britain, access to the Farmiloe building, the Order of St John's Priory and the House of Detention, design shopping and an Eastern European contingent.
