Disney Princes In 'Real Life' Have Got Us Feeling A Bit Flustered

We Wish These 'Real Life' Disney PrincesExisted

While the internet has seemingly reached peak Disney princess (hey it was bound to happen someday), we've still got plenty of time for the princes.

Now more than ever - thanks to illustrator, Jirka Väätäinen.

The 25-year-old freelance designer, who is currently based in Melbourne, Australia, has created a series of stunning illustrations showing what our favourite Disney princes would look like in real life.

And - hubba hubba - he's certainly done a good job.

From The Little Mermaid's Prince Eric to the rather rough-around-the-edges Tarzan, Väätäinen has given a new lease of life to the Disney characters - to the point where we're now a bit gutted they aren't real.

Speaking to HuffPost UK Lifestyle, Väätäinen reveals that he came up with the idea for "real life" Disney characters in 2011, after he tried to make Ursula from The Little Mermaid look like a real person in Photoshop.

"Having grown up with a lot of these characters, the sense of nostalgia made it such a fascinating and a fun personal project to explore," he says, "and then carry on with."

"I have always been interested in character design, as well as the way people look and what makes them unique in their appearances," he explains.

"So I was inspired by the idea of recreating these characters that we all know and love, in a way I would imagine them to look like if they were 'more real'. While still staying somewhat true to the unrealistic quirks in their original character designs."

Why? Because everyone loves Disney.

"I think a lot of people, like myself, have grown up with Disney and been fascinated by them and looked up to these characters," he adds.

"Doing something original with these characters will always give people a fresh point of view and reason to get excited about them all over again.

"The great thing about having more of a realistic face, is that it allows people to feel even more deeply about these characters and see them as someone relatable or swoon-worthy."

We'd be inclined to agree.
