Occasionally, a mother will survive childbirth and middle age to attend their daughter's wedding but these characters have fairly minimal parts - see the interchangeable queens in Sleeping Beauty and Tangled who just stand around looking beautiful and worried. I can't ever imagine a Disney film where a 30 year old woman is the main character.
The mountains of Northern Cyprus were formed by earthquakes centuries ago. The ridge has kept the rain that sweeps across the Mediterranean from falling any further south. The landscape on one side is considerably more rich and green than that on the other. The trail drops down on each side and it offers two strikingly different landscapes, both harbouring a wide variety of wildlife. Foxes and in my case snakes.
One of my biggest passions is encouraging as many children and families as possible to be physically active. It is why I am hugely honoured to be supporting Disney's #HealthilyEverAfter campaign which aims to encourage discussion around the challenges parents face and invite their thoughts on how to motivate children to live more healthily.
Remember the context here, Sleeping Beauty was released in fifties America, when sexism was rife. Prince Philip, a man, is saved by three fairies, perhaps explaining why the film was a critical and commercial failure at the time. But it's a harrowing vision of the future of feminism - a satire of the overt masculinity of the times and a homage to the people who try.
