Charlize Theron never ceases to amaze us with her sheer beauty, and just when we thought she couldn't impress us any more, the actress sported one of the best updos we have ever seen at the Critics' Choice Awards last night.

She teamed her scalloped Alaia gown with an intricate side braid that was wrapped around the back of her neck and plaited into a bun. The front of her hair was left smooth and glossy for the ultimate, subtle but stunning red carpet style.

As for the makeup, Theron got it just right with nude, natural colours on the eyes, cheeks and lips. If this look is anything to go by, she will be ruling the red carpet this awards season.

How do you rate Charlize's knotted hair? We asked Toni & Guy's International Artistic Director for an expert opinion. Indira Schauwecker said, "Braids are a great way of adding an ethereal twist to both your day-to-day style and eveningwear hair. Charlize Theron's look is essentially a 'French' plait braided horizontally through the hair rather than vertically for a touch of grown-up glamour".

Let us know how you rate Theron's look and if you fancy giving this plait a go, here's Schauwecker's DIY style cheat sheet:

Step One - Brush your hair into a side ponytail and secure with a clear elastic

Step Two - Take a small section of hair and wind around the ponytail to disguise the elastic.

Step Three - Braid the length of the ponytail and secure with a clear elastic.

Step Four - Direct the braid horizontally across the head and fold the end in on itself to disguise the elastic.

Step Five - Pin in place to secure and finish with label.m hairspray.
