The most anticipated look of the show, it provides a breathtakingly beautiful finale to each designer's presentation. With delicate lace detailing, lavish sequin embellishment and trains that seemed to stretch for miles, some dresses swathed their model in masses of material, others fitted like gloves.

Inspired by princess tiaras, ruby, sapphire, emerald and diamond were the tones of choice for a glittering Elie Saabhaute couture Fall/Winter 2013-2014 collection. Known for creating increasingly impressive bridal designs year upon year, the Lebanese designer didn't disappoint, unveiling a decadently sequin-embroidered silver dress accompanied by a seemingly endless veil carried by three bridesmaids whose dresses matched and mirrored the bride's.

Creative directors of the Italian fashion house Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired by the unique and precious objects of curiosity shops for their Fall/Winter 2013-2014 haute couture collection. In keeping with that theme, this sleek dress with its classic lines and subtle train has been intricately embellished with lace, pearls and gold thread.

The high point of a futuristic collection from Chanel, this wedding dress was worn on the catwalk by model Erin Wasson against an apocalyptic backdrop of cityscapes in ruins. With a high officer's collar, the fitted tweed piece was cinched in with a large belt, dotted with silk-covered buttons and trailed an impressive embroidered organza train.

At Christian Dior the wedding dress for Fall/Winter 2013-2014 was pristine white and structural. A shapely strapless number fitted around the bust, cinched in by dramatic contrasting black bands with a full flowing skirt, the dress closed a collection which creative director of the fashion house Raf Simons described as "free and modern".

In a collection entitled 'Nude', Giorgio Armani presented a series of pastel-coloured Art Deco-inspired dresses this Couture Week. Referencing similar design codes, the delicately sequined straps of this wedding dress recalled the glamour of 1940s Hollywood starlets.

The Italian designer unveiled a surprisingly short wedding dress at his haute couture Fall/Winter 2013-2014 runway show. An avant-garde alternative to more classic styles, the asymmetric piece featured a floral motif and was cinched in at the waist by a large band of white ribbon.
