You’ll no doubt know Liz Earle from the eponymous brand she launched in 1995. But this skincare guru is so much more than a best-selling hot cloth cleanser.

While she’s no longer involved with the brand, which is now owned by the Wallgreen Boots Alliance, she launched Liz Earle Wellbeing, a women’s lifestyle magazine, in 2013 and is the author of more than 30 books.

We caught up with her for our Must Haves series, to hear about the five things she can’t live without.

L’Oreal Elnett Unfragranced Extra Strength Hairspray

This iconic hairspray has been Earle’s “go-to spray for decades”.

“It’s a mystery why more isn’t made of this styling marvel,” she says. “Who wants their hair to smell of hairspray? This unscented formula is a true gem – works incredibly well, brushes out easily and best of all, entirely fragrance-free, which suits me as I prefer to spritz perfume onto my hair, rather then on my sensitive skin.”

Kefir

Since writing her Good Gut Guide book, Earle says she’s become obsessed with drinking kefir every morning.

“It’s like a super-yoghurt, just bursting with huge varieties of beneficial bacteria,” she says. “I love mixing up the brands and varieties I drink as each one has a unique microbial profile – and although we don’t know too much about specific beneficial bacterial strains, we do know that the greater the diversity the better we’re likely to look and feel.”

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara

“I’ve tried SO many mascaras over the decades but have remained faithful to Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara for the longest time,” says Earle.

What’s so great about this product? “I love the way you simply remove with a few splashes of warm water – yet it simply does not budge during the day, even during a hot gym class.”

Tumi Back Pack

Earle describes herself as “like a snail”, because she tends to carry so much around in her backpack: “Everything goes in here, from laptop to lipgloss, trainers to toothpaste.”

Since taking up weight training, Earle says she’s more confident carrying a heavy load on her back. “It’s a safe and effective way to boost muscle-mass and build stronger bones as a wellbeing bonus too.”

Travel Wrap

Earle is such a huge fan of travel wraps – which basically a big cashmere shawl from The Travel Wrap Company – that she says she never travels without one. “I have a huge collection and even visited the cashmere mill where they are hand woven up in Scotland so I could feature [the company] in my magazine.”

She adds: “My family know that a new style or shade will always be one of the best presents they can buy me.” Well if they didn’t know already, now they certainly will.
