Teenager's 'Negative Poem' Is Seriously Inspiring If You Read It Backwards

This 'Negative Poem' Has A Seriously Inspiring Twist
|

After a tough day, it's all too easy to focus on the negative aspects of life and forget about all the wonderful things and people that are around us.

But a poem thought to have been written by a teenager has given us a major lesson in shifting our perspective.

When read from top to bottom, the poem focusses on the misery of life and tells readers that today is "the absolute worst day ever".

But read the poem from bottom to top, and its message is one of hope and creating your own destiny.

The poem was stuck on a wall on Holloway Road, London, when Ronnie Joice spotted it and tweeted a photo.

The image has since been posted on Imgur, where more than 1 million people have viewed the inspirational words.

The work is reportedly the work of Chanie Gorkin, a secondary school pupil from Brooklyn in New York.

We don't know about you, but we think she's got a bright future ahead of her.

Love is patient, love is kind…you might be able to recite this poem from memory. That’s because you’ve heard it at 90 per cent of the weddings you've attended.
I Carry Your Heart With Me(02 of10)

This might be an unexpected inclusion, considering the modern style of cummings’ poetry, but this poem went mainstream during the release of In Her Shoes (both movie and book). It’s also lovely, and one of many beautiful love poems cummings had wrote.
How Do I Love Thee?(03 of10)

Spoiler alert: there are a lot of ways to love someone. But then you find out that Barrett Browning eloped with her husband at a time when that was not really the thing to do, and it’s all a bit more romantic.
I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You(04 of10)

Taken on the surface this poem reads a bit like an unhealthy relationship, but maybe it’s really a look at the reality of love — like how angry you get when someone leaves their socks on the floor.
Love(05 of10)

Although Roy is defining what love means to him, you may find something you can relate to as well.
I Ching(06 of10)

This is the go-to way to add a bit of gravitas to your ceremony, but it’s kind of hard to argue with the verse itself.
It’s You I Like(07 of10)

This may be the cheesiest poem on the list, but we can’t diss Mr. Rogers, not even a tiny bit.
The Prophet(08 of10)

The Prophet is the First Corinthians for graduate students, a way to show you are studious and well-read. That said, Gibran captures the hard part of being in love perfectly.
How Falling In Love Is Like Owning A Dog(09 of10)

There is something inherently corny about comparing your committed adult relationship to cleaning up dog poop, but there is a funny bit of truth in it too. (If falling in love was like owning a cat, nobody would ever get married.)Read the full poem here.
Benediction of the Apaches(10 of10)

This one does not come from the Apaches at all, but rather originated from the 1947 novel Blood Brother, whose author invented a wedding ritual that was not actually used by the Apaches themselves. But hey, the sentiment is nice.
