WHO? Temperley London

WHAT? Entitled 'Renaissance', this was a collection inspired by religious paintings from the beginning of the 18th century, combined with a celebration of opulence, and a touch of Slavic folklore (which came in the form of huge fur hats.) Oh and plenty of bling: statement necklaces, bejewelled cuffs and uber-embellished finale frocks.

BEG, BORROW OR STEAL: While the shorter daywear dresses failed to excite (they were nice, just not that memorable) some of the evening wear gowns were pure elegance: the empire line pleated floor-sweeper, for example would make a stylish bridal option. There were also a sprinkling of quite covetable tailored coats. But mainly, we just want to get our hands on one of those hats.

VERDICT: Typical Temperley fare, this will no doubt be another commercial success for Alice, but with last Spring/Summer's collection being up there with our favourites, we couldn't help but feel that this fell slightly flat. However, we're all over the romantic Renaissance concept: give us some ornate patterns and luxe fabrics any day. So let's give Ms Temperley the final word: "In this fast transcient world a little decadence is like a tonic, a romantic escapism," she says. She's not wrong.
