Eclipses follow a pattern of sorts in that they occur in 'sets' of a pair of opposing zodiac signs, almost six months apart and usually over a two year period. As above, so below, and over the course of the set the themes of consciousness of the traits and life areas governed by the eclipse zodiac signs plays out in both our lives and the lives of those around us.

Some people fear mercury retrograde as a time of doom, gloom and disaster. This astrological transit has its own hashtag on social media with accompanying stories of the mayhem often caused by this cosmic tailspin which many refer to as mercury retro ARGH.

Being spiritual is easy if you spend your life meditating on a mountain top with intermittent breaks for yoga and energy treatments (I actually know people who pretty much live like this) but for most of us attempting to live a spiritual life of sorts we simply don't have the pleasure or privilege of living in this way.

I know many people love this day of schmaltz where hearts are de rigueur but I am not a fan. Irrespective of my relationship status I have never liked Valentine's Day. Don't get me wrong I am a die hard romantic. In fact I am known for my excessive sentimentality which at times has proved to be my Achilles' heel.

Before meeting my other half I spent the best part of five years navigating the peaks and troughs of single life and know all too well the pain and pleasure of flying solo on special occasions. Here are some of my tips on how I enjoyed, made the most of and kept my sanity/perspective in check at Christmas and many other special occasions.

In my darkest of times I found myself doing a gratitude exercise where literally as I would awake in the morning I would thank the universe, the higher powers that exist, for waking again. As I stepped out of bed I would thank god that I had the ability to walk and feel the carpet under my toes.

As someone who loved the Rav deeply and benefitted tremendously from his wisdom, teachings and love seeing many of the erroneous reports about his life have moved me to tell the truth of the man that I had the honour of knowing.

My way or the highway. Many spiritual organisations can be absolutely zealous that their particular method/spiritual path is the only way or the best way. Frankly this is bullshit. As the saying goes there are several different ways to skin a cat and the same applies to the path of enlightenment - there are several different ways and journeys for each person.

As I got out of the car, an elderly homeless man, barely able to walk, was crying. I stopped and asked him if I could help. He asked for some water and then cried again saying he was sorry to have to ask me for anything. I got him water, some food that was light enough to carry gave him the items and five dollars and got into my car and burst into tears.

This Independence Day when all those around me will be raising their beers celebrating the separation of America from Great Britain I will be raising a mug of good ole PG tips in honour of both glorious Great Britain, my former homeland, and America - my new home.

The Iron Lady's Death Shows Us How Far We Have To Go In Society as Well as Politics to Heal Legacies of Division and Separation
As a controversial figure the magnitude and the divisiveness of the response to The Iron Lady's death is in many ways unsurprising but personally I have found the tsunami of vitriol shocking.

Lindsay Lohan's personal and professional life has slowly unravelled over the last few years in one of the most dramatic slow motion 'life' car crashes of all time resulting in her being the subject of tabloid scrutiny and public derision.

A few years ago spurred by a friend I signed up for the 30 day Bikram yoga challenge. Having only ever tried yoga classes (Ashtanga) a couple of times before and intensely disliking the experience I was somewhat sceptical.

As a life coach and lawyer I have had to counsel many people on both the emotional, legal and financial fall-outs from relationships gone sour. What I have noticed often ends up being the most painful for my clients is when they feel that irrespective of their partner's behaviour, ultimately the heartbreak and ensuing chaos is down to their own lack of foresight.

Under South African law every accused person has a right to a fair trial, which includes the right to be presumed innocent. Oscar Pistorius has this right too. But Miss Steenkamp and the countless other victims of sudden, brutal deaths whilst in the company of their 'loved ones', also have the right for the truth to be told. Reeva Steenkamp has been forever silenced

Innocent until proven guilty is the modus operandi for the legal system in the UK and as a lawyer I am eminently aware of that concept. However, I found myself reading the reports about Collins' behaviour during his relationship with Anna Larke with a sense of uncomfortable recollection of my own painful memories from my first ever relationship whilst a teenager.

The demonization of Islam by the media, by society and by influential governments will cause further separation, lack of understanding and ultimately bloodshed in the world. Our real fear should be against those in power who seek to continue this separation rather than help to end it and bring unity.

We live in an age where bullying appears to be on the increase. In both the UK and the USA stories in the media of horrific bullying of young people resulting in them taking their own lives are sadly more commonplace than not.

Almost a decade ago I happened to be in a situation whereby I became privy to information which raised a red flag both legally and morally. At the time I didn't realise the extent of its significance and stored it away as a tale perhaps to be recounted one day in my memoirs or a fictionalised account of my experiences of the media world. When the phone hacking scandal first raised its ugly head a few years ago I immediately had flashbacks to those events and alarms bells rang off as to their potential significance. But when the scandal seemed to blow over as quickly as it erupted I didn't give it much further thought.

Nadine Dorries' proposals have been lambasted as being out of touch, based on religiosity and an attempt to impose Christian moral values on others as well as being sexist by targeting girls exclusively. Perhaps some of this is true and certainly some of her reasoning behind the bill is questionable if we are being polite, ludicrous if we are being blunt. But I can't help but think that whilst not hitting the nail on the head, she has touched a nerve that we as a society need to acknowledge and the government and educational authorities need to address.
