Chris Lawton is a senior research fellow in the Economic Strategy Research Bureau at Nottingham Business School, part of Nottingham Trent University.
Chris Lawton’s role at Nottingham Business School, part of Nottingham Trent University, combines teaching and academic research with consultancy projects, undertaken on behalf of local government and other public, private and voluntary sector organisations involved in employment, skills and training policy. Recent work includes economic assessments for the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire area and a study into the course choices made by young people in further education and vocational training. Chris teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate modules in evaluation and applied economics, and currently leads a new module that aims to enhance the employability skills of final year economics students.

Chris blogs regularly on employment, education, skills and migration issues, including monthly summaries of the UK employment and unemployment statistics. He works within the Economic Strategy Research Bureau, a multi-disciplinary research centre, established to draw on both public policy experience and the Business School’s academic programme. Chris previously worked as a research analyst and policy adviser for several UK Government organisations involved in economic development, regeneration and skills.
