But really everything I tasted was awesome and everything else on the menu looked worth trying on future visits. Cocktails and wine look just as good as the food, but I was happy nursing a Beavertown Neck Oil beer with my meal.

London has been a great place to drink for many a year. This year, for me, it seemed even better than before. My favourite watering holes continued to please while a handful of bars and pubs new or otherwise previously unknown to me caught my attention with great service, comfy digs and - most importantly - quality quaffs.

They came in all shapes and sizes ... and in a variety of less than typical situations (cargo container? driving range?) from fancy schmancy to stripped down and plain - but in every circumstance the food was the star.

Craving to unwind, be pampered and have a taste of La Dolce Vita in grand style? When in Rome you can do so at the Jumeirah Grand Hotel Via Veneto's superb Time Restaurant & Wine Bar.

Imagine something good and properly British making the London street food rounds that's not so much newfangled - and definitely not contrived - but traditional and comforting and prepared with thoughtfully sourced product and served with a friendly smile.

Sherpa aptly captures the increasingly acrimonious tension between foreign climbers and their guides while highlighting the codependence between the two parties and awing the eyes with stunning cinematography featuring the world's most majestic mountains as a backdrop.

I initially came across catering company and "pasta atelier" Doppiozero back in early September at Milano Exposed, an event held at Old Spitalfields Market celebrating "the best of aperitivo Milanese." The encounter was love at first bite.

Lady Unknown is the third production from ensemble group Theatre Untold. As with its two previous productions, the aim of Lady Unknown is to shine a light on a "forgotten historical figure." This time round that disremembered person is 19th century philanthropist and chum of Charles Dickens, Angela Burdett Coutts.

Popular Barbican Gastropub, The Jugged Hare, has launched a limited edition "Finger Lickin' Pheasant Bucket" in celebration of National Pheasant Week. Available from 16 to 22 November in, the bucket features eight pieces of deep fried pheasant. Feeling game? I was when I accepted an invitation to sample a bucket. Now I'm feeling fine (and full).

I've known Bel Shapiro - founding owner of The Bell & Brisket - for a number of years and all the while I've stayed a fan of her "seriously pimped up salt beef bagels" made with hand brined beef.

I've snooped round shipping container community hub, Pop Brixton, a few times now since it opened back in the spring. I like the vibe, the community spirit, the extension of the vibrant street life around Brixton Station. I love the food there too - especially what's being cooked up at street food trader Donostia Social Club's first permanent pintxos bar.

The future of international travel? It might be staying put or so it seemed after I settled in and got kitted out for personal demo experience of VRoom Service at The Marriott Hotel Park Lane a few days back.

Gilles' sazerac - that classic New Orleans mix of absinthe and whiskey - was among the best I've tasted in town while his milky, almond-rich Absinthe Suissesse ranked among the more intriguing (and refreshing) drinks I've had in quite some while.

Saturday afternoon's judging was a hoot with a raucous hoedown feel to it. The beer and whiskey flowed freely, judges were encouraged to speak out, cut up, and toss spare samples out from the stage where we presided to the rowdy audience below.

Me and golf? There's nothing there, no history (unless you allow encounters when the term was hyphenated with "mini" or "crazy" at the front of it). But I found the chance to try out the Peninsular range with a complimentary quickie lesson to be a lot of fun.

Okay folks, I've got a couple of phrases I'd like you to repeat after me. The first one is "kimchi and Stilton grilled cheese sandwich" as this is the future of what you shall crave. The other is "Druid Street Market," which is an important phrase to remember because that's were you're gonna head on Saturday to take a bite out of this uber-umami toastie.
