Bill Turnbull is set to reunite with former BBC Breakfast co-host Susanna Reid when he stands in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The 64-year-old, who is living with prostate cancer, will sit alongside his ex co-presenter on the ITV breakfast show for three mornings later this month.

In a statement, Bill said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Susanna again and really looking forward to being on Good Morning Britain.

“We didn’t work together long enough and we got on so well. I was sad when she left at short notice. So for her to ask me to sit alongside her is very exciting.”

Bill has appeared as a guest on GMB on a few occasions since leaving BBC Breakfast in 2016.

Susanna said of teaming up with her former co-star once again: “When Bill came into GMB, he joked about filling in for Piers – and now he is!

“It will be lovely to work alongside him again. I expect Bill presenting a breakfast show again will be like a duck taking to water - if the early alarm call isn’t too much of a shock.”

Bill added: “I’m in two minds about the early mornings! On the one hand, it’s great to be back doing live television. The other part of me thinks, ‘What on earth am I doing?’, having sworn never to do breakfast television again!

“But here I am doing it and it’s only in the short term, I’m in for three mornings.”

Asked if his presenting style will differ to the famously-outspoken Piers, Bill said: “Answering that would put me on thin ice, on deep water! But I can say, I don’t have such strong opinions as Piers has and I don’t voice them as much as he likes to. There are quite a few differences between us.”

Bill and Susanna worked together on BBC Breakfast until she defected to ITV to launch GMB in 2014.

He stepped down from his role on the rival breakfast show two years later, after 15 years at the helm.

Since then, he has been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer, and recently tried out some different products derived from cannabis for a Channel 4 documentary, Bill Turnbull: Staying Alive.

Giving an update about his health, Bill said he was “OK at the moment”.

“When you have cancer, it’s always there,” he said. “But currently I feel really good, most of the time.

“I have changed my diet considerably and in the past few months I have felt healthier than I have in a long time. The only thing I do have is, because I’m on a hormone treatment, I do get hot flushes sometimes. I’m a bit nervous as it could be slightly awkward in the studio.

“Normally what happens if I get a hot flush, I get all red in the face and I take my jacket off and cool down. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that. We may need to get a little fan.”

Bill Turnbull hosts Good Morning Britain on 24-26 February from 6am on ITV.
