A video of a British professional wrestler blaming Boris Johnson for the fact he lost a match has gone viral.
Zack Sabre Jr, who is signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), can be seen storming into a backstage area following his fight with Japanese wrestler EVIL on day nine of a tournament called G1.
But instead of blaming his opponent – or perhaps himself – for his embarrassing defeat, the Brit reserved all his wrath for Johnson, whom he calls a “wanker”.
Politics and wrestling don’t often mix but it’s a storyline which has taken off on social media, with thousands sharing the hilarious rant in which Sabre screams “Boris Johnson, the sodding prime minister of a real country, not a joke country” while beating the floor with a chair.
He later rolls on the floor and yells: “I can’t concentrate because I read all the news all day.”
The scene will have been preplanned, and perhaps even rehearsed, as is common in wrestling, where competitors take on personas and there are usually storylines surrounding each match.
Some are more bizarre than others: wrestler Kaientai supposedly tried to castrate his opponent Val Venis for having sex with his friend’s wife...
This isn’t the first time Sabre, a staunch Labour supporter, has gotten political.
The wrestler, whose real name is Lucas Eatwell, even sells t-shirts on his website which read: “I’ll fight with my brain and an underlying hatred of the British Conservative party.”
Sabre has been approached by HuffPost UK for a comment.
