The Dark Knight is about an unusual-looking man with a murky past plotting to disrupt the mainstream, so it’s perhaps fitting that Donald Trump is using the film’s soundtrack for his latest 2020 election video.
The two-minute clip, posted on the president’s Twitter account, is a mash-up of his least favourite people and his achievements since taking office.
Trump is clearly still revelling in his first election victory as he line up for a potential second term in 2020, with an early section displaying the words:
“First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they call you racist.”
This quote is a play on “first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”, which Trump has previously incorrectly attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.
But he seems to be rolling with it anyway and all in all it’s very dramatic and very, very American.
On the other side of the political divide, the largest Democratic field in the modern political era is lining up to seek the party’s 2020 presidential nomination - and is expected to keep growing.
The diverse group vying to challenge Trump, the likely Republican nominee, includes six US senators. A record six women are running, as well as black, Hispanic and openly gay candidates who would make history if one of them became the party’s nominee.
