It seems Elon Musk may be a little less certain about Kanye West’s US presidency bid than he first made out.
Over the weekend, after Kanye reiterated his hopes to run for president in 2020, the Tesla billionaire was quick to show the rapper his firm endorsement, tweeting: “You have my full support.”
Since then, Kanye gave an interview to Forbes, in which he revealed that he was being given guidance by Elon Musk, who he said he intended to make head of America’s space programme if he’s elected.
However, other comments made in the same interview – including expressing his anti-vaccine and anti-abortion stances – seem to have made the SpaceX founder a little less enthusiastic about Kanye becoming US leader.
When one Twitter shared a link to Kanye’s comments, alongside the message “cmon Elon – you’re way too intelligent for this BS”, he responded: “We may have more differences of opinion than I anticipated.”
However, Elon Musk’s tweet appears to have since been deleted, but is still searchable on Google.
HuffPost UK has contacted a representative for Elon Musk for clarification.
During Kanye’s Forbes interview, he also revealed he no longer considered herself a supporter of current US president Donald Trump, who he’s previously faced a lot of controversy for endorsing, declaring: “I am taking the red hat off, with this interview.”
“One of the main reasons I wore the red hat as a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community,” he explained. “Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”
Kanye first stated he wanted to run for president five years ago, during an acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs.
In the years since, the Grammy-winning musician has sporadically made comments insisting he still intends to be in the presidential race in 2020.
