George Clooney Impersonator Arrested In Thailand After Years On The Run

The actor sued him in 2010.

An Italian man has been arrested for posing as the Hollywood actor George Clooney to promote a fashion business.

Francesco Galdeli, 58, was arrested on Saturday near the city of Pattaya on suspicion of staying in the country illegally.

Offices also arrested 45-year-old Vanja Goffi on suspicion of overstaying her visa.

Thai authorities say an Interpol notice had been issued for Galdeli.

He was sentenced by a Milan court to more than eight years in jail in 2010 after being found guilty of impersonating Clooney in order to trick investors.

According to AFP the couple is also wanted in Italy for multiple scams including selling fake Rolex watches online and sometimes mocking their victims by sending packets of salt instead of time pieces.

Clooney sued them in 2010 and testified against them in a trial, saying they had fraudulently used his name.

The Bangkok Post writes that both Galdeli and Goffi will be handed over to the Italian authorities after legal proceedings are completed.
