Piers Morgan has admitted that what he recently thought were symptoms of coronavirus may have actually just been a severe case of hay fever.

Last month, Piers missed a week’s worth of episodes of Good Morning Britain, claiming he had been showing symptoms of Covid-19.

As an essential worker, the divisive presenter was allowed to take a coronavirus test, which ultimately came back negative, and he’s now revealed he thinks the false alarm may have actually been due to hay fever.

Over the weekend, Piers told his Twitter followers that his allergies were worse than usual, writing: “Worst hay fever I’ve ever had. Know pollen count’s very high, but anyone else getting it so bad?

“Any theories as to why? Is reduced pollution during lockdown a factor?”

Fellow broadcaster Deborah Haynes then revealed that her own increased hay fever symptoms had led her to constantly reasusure anyone she’s around she’s not experiencing “anything Covid-y”, to which Piers responded: “Exactly! I genuinely thought I had it several weeks ago, now I’m sure it was bad hay fever.

“Lot of similar symptoms apart from the fever, ironically.”

Piers’ Covid-19 test proved to be a contentious issue when he revealed online that he’d taken one, reopening his long-standing feud with Lord Sugar.

“If this was Hugh Grant, Meghan or another of his enemies... he would be howling from the rooftops,” the Apprentice star claimed on Twitter.

Although Piers did not respond directly to Lord Sugar, he did write back to one Twitter user, who questioned whether or not as the host of GMB he was an “essential worker”.

When the woman in question pointed out that her daughter is a nurse, Piers responded: “Your daughter is an infinitely more essential worker than me.

“I was drawing no equivalence, just explaining the Govt’s designated all journalists & broadcasters covering the coronavirus crisis as essential workers too, which is why we can get a test if we show symptoms.”
