The Unenthusiastic Dieter - The Brutal Honesty of a 4-Year-Old

In the past month, I've had quite a few people ask me nicely how my diet is going... my responses have included, "Leave me alone", "That's none of your business" and "Ah, that's my landline ringing, gotta get it, Byeee".

In the past month, I've had quite a few people ask me nicely how my diet is going... my responses have included, "Leave me alone", "That's none of your business" and "Ah, that's my landline ringing, gotta get it, Byeee".

Progress Update: 14 kilos down, 26 kilos to go.

On 31 December 2012, I set my New Year's Resolution: To lose 40 kg's in 12 months. Today, 3 months after I started, I am happy to report that I'm 14 kg's lighter already. Sadly the 14 kg's were all lost in the first two months and the accomplishment of month 3 is merely that I have managed not to gain any weight...

In the third month of my diet journey, life happened... I got sick with a bit of a flu so for more than a week, I was under the weather. I had some bad news personally and a bit of a knock professionally. And I've had the kids home for the Easter holidays and have been out and about loads with them. Do feel free to think of more poor excuses and INSERT HERE.

In any case, all this caused me to lose all will power and for at least half the time during this month, I was off the diet and exercise was not on the menu.

But I've picked myself up, dusted myself off and I'm back on track... and here's how it happened:

On the last day of March, I was working on my laptop in the living room and my 4-year-old daughter, Noelle, was next to me watching the TV. Suddenly Noelle says to me, "Look, Mummy, that woman looks just like you". I look up from the computer to the TV, and saw that the woman she was referring to, was a VERY heavy woman whose hair colour and cut rather resembled mine. Now, I knew that it wasn't the woman's hair that made Noelle make the entire connection, but I also knew that she didn't mean it as an insult, she simply stated what she felt was a fun fact. So I laughed about it to my little girl but on the inside I wanted to cry (and have a biscuit)... she might as well have slapped me in the face, knocked me over and slapped me again.

Secretly I thank Noelle for her brutal honesty, of course, because it was what got me to snap out of my misery!

So I'm back on track with the diet and I have started to exercise also. A week ago I got an exercise machine... well, I say "exercise machine", but that's actually the understatement of the year. This machine, the E11.5 Elliptical Trainer, has to be the Bentley of all exercise machines, it's nothing short of an amazing beast! And if that can't get me exercising, NOTHING will! So I will get on this amazing beast and finish what I started!
