Producers of Elton John biopic Rocketman have played down claims a romantic gay scene would be cut from the final edit.

Reports had suggested that the film would leave a nude scene, depicting the pop star and his lover, on the cutting room floor.

It was claimed the scene, which features Taron Egerton as Sir Elton and Richard Madden as his manager John Reid sharing a naked embrace, would be taken out of the film in order to lower the film’s age rating.

However, a spokesperson for Elton’s own production company, Rocket Pictures, and Marv Film has said the film is still in the editing process but will remain unfiltered.

“Following rumours and speculation in the press today we would like to reiterate that Rocketman is still unfinished,” they told Press Association.

“We are currently finalising the edit of the film to give audiences the fantastical, warts and all musical experience that Rocket Pictures, Marv Films, Paramount and Elton so passionately believe in delivering for audiences.”

Rocketman stars Taron Egerton and Richard Madden, alongside Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin and Bryce Dallas Howard as Sir Elton’s mother.

The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Lee Hall.

It is due for release in UK cinemas on 17 May.
