The United States have won the Women’s World Cup, beating Holland 2-0 in the final in Lyon.
Sunday’s win at Stade de Lyon in France marked the team’s fourth World Cup victory and its 12th consecutive win in World Cup matches.
The game’s first goal came from captain Megan Rapinoe, who scored a penalty around the 61-minute mark.
The second goal was scored roughly seven minutes later by Rose Lavelle.
They become the second team to win the competition twice in a row, matching the feat of 2003 and 2007 champions Germany.
Both US successes have been achieved under the management of Jill Ellis, who was born in England.
Rapinoe’s spot-kick saw her finish alongside team-mate Alex Morgan and England’s Ellen White as the tournament’s joint top-scorer with six goals.
