Years And Years Trailer: BBC Releases First Clip Of Russell T Davies' Star-Studded BBC Drama

The six-parter sees Britain rocked by political, social and technological changes. Sound familiar?

The BBC has revealed the first trailer for Russell T Davies’ new BBC drama Years And Years, which boasts an all-star cast that includes Dame Emma Thompson, Rory Kinnear, Russell Tovey and Jessica Hynes.

The six-parter, which will air in May, follows one family attempting to survive as Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances.

One night in 2019 serves as the start point and the episodes will then chart the events of 15 years.

The one-minute promo clip starts with Him And Her actor Russell holding a newborn baby as he says: “What sort of world are we in, because if it’s this bad now, what’s it going to be like for you in 30 years’ time?

“Ten years, five years – what’s it going to be like?”

It also features Emma appearing on Question Time, telling viewers “I do not give a…”, after Jessica’s character says that we are “racing to the next disaster”.

“When’s it ever going to stop?” she asks.

Emma’s character is described as “a new breed of politician, an entertainer, a rebel, a trickster, and her rise to power leads us into an unknown future”.

Hm. It all sounds very familiar, doesn’t it?

The series also features Witless and Marcella actress T’Nia Miller, alongside Cold Feet’s Ruth Madeley and veteran star Anne Reid.

Years And Years follows a string of hits from writer Russell, which include the Golden Globe-winning A Very English Scandal.

In 2015, he won praise for creating three inter-linked shows, Cucumber, Banana and Tofu.

LGBTQ+ focussed dramas Cucumber and Banana aired on Channel 4 and its sister station E4, while the accompanying documentary series went out online.
