I have only the utmost respect for the United States of America. I have been lucky enough to visit more than half of the 50 states and meet wonderful people from coast to coast. But this President does not represent the values of, or deserve the same kind of respect I have for those generous, optimistic, and caring Americans.

We should not honour or be seen to endorse those who attack or stand against our basic values of humanity and equality. We should choose not to honour those to those who denigrate women, advocate torture, and who demonise people because of their faith. Those are not British values.
Down in the Commons chamber, MPs couldn't help direct their sympathy and love up towards that small family grouping in the corner of the gallery. Nearly all MPs on all sides wore the white rose of Yorkshire as a mark of respect for the local lass, and some wore purple and green colours of the Suffragette movement, as Brendan and Jo had at their own wedding.
The UK can no longer provide tacit shelter, heaven and refuge for the world's rich, powerful and corrupt. The shadowy systems of secrecy which permeate our territories abroad must come to an end. All of us who pay our tax - demand no less. And the poorest who lose out the most - deserve no less.
What would be madness is slashing the very budget focused on tackling the gross poverty, instability and insecurity that threatens our national and global security, drives people to flee their countries to drown in the Mediterranean, but most importantly - degrades us all as human beings.
