NEW YORK -- If you can’t understand why America is unable to tackle the issue of firearms, here’s an avenue into the mindset of the average second amendment absolutist, who simply refuses to admit the Republic has a gun problem.
Author Dana Loesch appeared on Fox News on Wednesday to discuss the shooting in Virginia but refused to countenance any correlation between the country’s right to bear arms and its monstrous gun-related death rate. She said:
“We don't have a gun problem. We have a criminal problem. We have a society that thinks it's completely permissible to shirk responsibility. We have people who have no problem with what Planned Parenthood does in terms of fetal parts harvesting. We don't teach a respect for life. We glorify violence in movie, music, film, and books. This is what our society is. This is Frankenstein's monster. This is what society has created; it is a reflection of us."
And Loesch isn’t some buckaroo on a Nevada ranch threatening to overthrow the federal government over grazing fees. She’s an articulate commentator and radio show host, who likely typifies the ethos of many Americans for whom gun ownership is intrinsically linked with personal liberty.
As baffling as it is for Europeans, this widespread attitude is why there will never be movement on gun control, no matter how many people are slain.
