Everyone Should Like Roald Dahl Books... Shouldn't They?

As I told my audience that my least favourite book as a child was a Roald Dahl book, I literally heard a couple of children gasp as they couldn't believe what I had just said. But then I elaborated, and I saw two hundred pairs of eyes looking at me intently as they listened to every word.

Don't Tell Me Boys Can't Read As Well!

Last week my son called me over to the computer to show me a headline that had flashed up, implying that boys were failing at reading. He looked at me incredulously and said "this is such a load of rubbish. I love reading!"

The Stress-Free Way to Discipline Your Kids!

This morning I woke up well and truly sick of constantly thinking up punishments for my kids when they misbehave. The more that I thought about it, the more I realized that the naughty acts are generally towards each other.

Dear Mum Who's Had a Hard Day

I felt like you had the weight of the world on your shoulders and I just wanted to tell you that everything would be ok but I could tell from the look in your eyes that you were stuck in a vicious circle from which you saw no escape.

Free Medicine - Think About It!

I hope that this information going public has made someone's life that little bit easier now. Someone who does struggle to buy medicine for their children as there will be people out there who do need this help.

Good Mums Have Sticky Floors!

Yes it may look a bit messy when you pop round for a cuppa but that isn't because I have sat on my backside watching day time tv all day. It is because I have spent time playing with my kids, helping them with their homework, or preparing a family meal for us all to sit round the table and eat later.

What Not to Say to a Mum of Boys!

Being a mum of four amazing boys, I have been subjected to all of the comments you are about to read! Luckily for my boys, they know that they are the best thing that ever happened to me and I wouldn't change things for the world. :)

Postnatal Anxiety

She didn't tell anyone about this, not her husband, not her family and not her friends. She lied on the post natal questionnaire for fear that her baby would be taken off of her if anyone found out how much she was struggling.

Motherhood Meltdown Moments!

Now I challenge any mum to have a day like this and not lock herself in the bathroom for a little cry or yell at the kids whilst struggling to get her words out as she is that stressed.........and then shout a little more as the kids point out she can't talk properly!

Toddler Rule Book!

On my sons second birthday he officially went from baby to toddler. Not just in the grammatical sense of the word but in every other way possible! I swear that someone left him a present that was for his eyes only, one that was invisible to grownups - The Toddler Rule Book..............

You Know You Are a Mum of Boys When.........

You are forever stopping prying little eyes trying to look behind you as you have a wee as they try to fathom how you can possibly do that when you have no willy! You stop waxing your bikini line in an attempt to cover your bits from the above investigation!

Breastfeeding - Don't Believe The Hype!

I remember lying on a hospital bed as a monster of a midwife pushed his head against my boob as he fought back against her screaming at the top of his lungs.

Why Did No-One Come To My Party Mummy?

Excluding children from parties is just as hurtful. Imagine not receiving one single birthday party invite all year as you hear your classmates all chatting about the next cool party at the weekend.

A Guide to Parenting - According to My Husband!

Wife goes on a rare night out and you have strict instructions regarding kids bed time - ignore all said instructions, give them all the forbidden snacks they want in front of a movie and let them fall asleep on the sofa without brushing their teeth. Maximum points for dad!

'Sorry I'm Late!'

I am the mum who smiles bashfully at other mums walking in the opposite direction after already dropping their kids at school. I am the mum who has perfected my nod of solidarity to other parents racing in consistently late alongside me as we battle to win the race not to be last.

Positive Reinforcement Of Sibling Kindness

I like to think that I am in control but let's face it, my boys are starting to learn that they outnumber me. There is only so long that I can stand there asserting my authority to two of them before the other two start getting up to mischief to divert my attention.

Sleep Deprivation - How to Cope!

Being a mum of four young boys means that a good nights sleep is well and truly a thing of the past. So, over the past eight years I have had to develop a good coping strategy or I think I would have literally gone insane.

You Are Going to be a Daddy!

I remember the excitement I felt seeing that little blue cross in the small square window of my pregnancy test. It seemed surreal. I was 27 years old and pregnant with my first son. I couldn't wait to share the news with my husband but I wanted to find the perfect way to tell him. We both wanted a baby but I sensed that, like many men, he still didn't feel 'ready'.

We Will Eat at the Table Tonight!

In my house I am made to feel like the biggest nag in the world suggesting a family dinner round the table - by all five of my men! My two eldest tell me that 'it's boring' sitting at the table. My four year old contests just because that seems the thing to do and hey, if his big brothers are saying it then it must be right.

MRI Experience - A Patients Perspective

We all receive the official blurb from the hospital telling us the basics of what to expect and how to prepare but there is nothing like hearing it from someone who has actually gone through it. Not the doctors technical perspective but the patients subjective perspective.
