I have worked in the bridal industry for fifteen years, so as you can imagine, I have seen a lot of beautiful weddings. I can't tell you the amount of times I have looked at photographs of a stunningly dressed bride and groom, and then looked at the guests standing next to them, and thought, 'what are they wearing?'
What events like the Royal Wedding, the London Olympics and Wimbledon show are that, deep down, we are in fact amongst that most genuine and charming people out there. Give us a bottle of Pimms and we'll stumble and knock over our metaphorical walls. Give us a bit of sun as a remedy to our coldness, and our solar-powered souls are reinvigorated.

I worked on the advertising campaign of original Olympic application. To win the bid London had to prove that the UK Olympics would mean progress, not just in sport but for the nation. Ten years later I wonder if the billions of pounds that have been lavished on the games meant a step backwards rather than forward.
