The actor was thought to have been taking a flight to Detroit, from Vermont’s Burlington International Airport, but was stopped by security when they noticed a strange object in his hand luggage, as shown in images obtained by the Daily Mail.

After looking through his bag, a Transport Security Administration officer reportedly then discovered a ten-inch hunting knife, which should have been placed in his checked luggage, in accordance with flight regulations.

According to the Mail, Pierce was then taken into a separate room to be questioned by officers, emerging “a short time later”, when he was then asked to walk through scanners again, before being allowed to board his flight.

TSA regulations state that all sharp objects are forbidden from being taken onto flights. This includes knives, apart from those with a round end, such as butter knives.

Pierce had been travelling with his 14-year-old son, Paris, the youngest of his five children.

Last month, he welcomed the arrival of his third grandchild, when his son’s wife gave birth to a baby girl, named Marley May Cassandra.

The actor is currently gearing up for the release of his latest film, ‘No Escape’, which also stars Owen Wilson in a rare non-comedic role.
