On Wednesday night, Lorde gave a moving performance in honour of David Bowie, covering one of his signature tunes, ‘Life On Mars?’, with his backing band.

Lorde - who was once described by Bowie as “the future of music” - won praise for her performance on social media, and has now been given the thumbs up by the music icon’s son.

After watching Lorde’s performance, he wrote on Twitter that it was “just... beautiful”, adding: “Thank you.”

Keyboard player Mike Garson replied: “Thank you Duncan. So glad you enjoyed it. that means a lot to the band.”

His tweet about the performance was a stark contrast from his response to Lady Gaga's Grammys tribute to David Bowie.

Her performance included an array of Bowie hits including ‘Ziggy Stardust’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Fame’ and ‘Heroes’, as well as a guest spot from his former collaborator, Nile Rodgers, though Duncan didn’t exactly seem to be a fan of her elaborate tribute.

Think the word you’re looking for could be ‘gaga’, Duncan…

David Bowie sadly died last month, at the age of 69, following a private battle with cancer.
