Maths Teacher Dismissed After Calling Pupils 'Spastics' And 'Idiots'

A maths teacher who called pupils "spastics", "morons" and "idiots", was dismissed by his school but is allowed to teach again, a committee has ruled.

Rajiv Kumar Bobal, who taught mathematics at Bournemouth School for Boys, was dismissed for gross misconduct after the allegations came to light. He had taught at the school since 1988 until he was accused of verbally assaulting pupils and "regularly" walked out of lessons when he failed to control pupils' behaviour.

The General Teaching Council (GTC) ruled Bobal had breached the standards expected of teachers when he insulted his pupils but said there was no evidence Bobal left the classroom due to his inability to control pupils.

The committee, sitting in Birmingham, concluded the case without making any disciplinary order.
