It’s official: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now have their own Instagram page.

Announcing the news on Tuesday, officials posted nine photographs of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the new account @SussexRoyal, with a caption explaining why the couple have a new social media page dedicated to them.

“Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you. Harry & Meghan.”

By Wednesday the account had gathered 2.4 million followers.

Previously the couple’s life and work was covered on the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram page alongside the activities of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and it was here that the new accounts was announced on Tuesday. Kensington Royal has 7.1 million followers.

Meghan and Harry are expecting their first child in the spring and are moving from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor in preparation.

Perhaps the first picture on the new account will be of the new baby? Royal fans await with excitement – in their hundreds of thousands at last count.

The first pictures posted on the page include images of the couple watching the sailing final of the Invictus Games in Sydney and Meghan visiting a community kitchen in west London to support victims of the Grenfell tower fire.

There are also images of Prince Harry in Malawi helping with environmental conservation and working alongside volunteers and vets to relocate elephants to the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve to replenish populations.

There are also several photos of them meeting royal admirers around the world - including in Windsor, where they were married in May 2018.
